BZ DIAMOND is a Dubai based company engaged in lab grown and natural diamonds. We were one of the first companies to produce lab created diamonds in the UAE and now specialize in producing and selling rough and polished lab and natural diamonds throughout the world.

What are Lab Grown Diamonds?

Lab grown diamonds, also known as created diamonds and cultured diamonds which are grown in highly controlled laboratory environments using advanced technological processes that duplicate the conditions under which diamonds naturally develop when they form beneath the Earth’s crust. Lab grown diamonds consist of actual carbon atoms arranged in the characteristic diamond crystal structure. Since they are made of the same material as natural diamonds, they exhibit the same optical and chemical properties.

From seed to stone

What is a lab-grown diamond seed?

Every Lightbox stone starts with a tiny piece of diamond, known as a diamond seed, that is used as a starting point for growing our lab-grown diamonds. The seeds act as a template for a lattice of carbon to grow in layers over the course of a few days.

Under the microscope

The seeds are loaded into a CVD reactor where a combination of heat, pressure and a carbon source are added. When the temperatures reach several thousand degrees, the gas molecules break apart and carbon atoms bond to the seeds, growing them layer by layer.

A lab-grown diamond in the rough

In our high-tech lab, we can grow a one carat stone in about two weeks! A rough stone that is ready to be cut away to reveal the transparent stone within and polished into our ready to wear lab-grown diamonds.

The cost of lab grown diamonds can vary depending on factors such as size and quality. Generally, lab grown diamonds are priced less than natural diamonds of comparable quality.

Distinguishing between lab grown and natural diamonds isn’t possible with the naked eye. However, gemologists can identify lab grown diamonds through various methods. Most lab grown diamonds exhibit certain features or "fingerprints" that differ from natural diamonds. One common technique to identify them is using specialized equipment like spectroscopy to view fluorescence patterns. Additionally, some lab grown diamonds may have tiny inclusions or growth patterns that are not typical in natural diamonds, providing further clues to their origin.

Lab grown diamonds, like natural diamonds, can have various clarity grades, ranging from flawless (no inclusions visible under 10x magnification) to included (inclusions visible to the naked eye). The presence of inclusions or imperfections can affect the clarity of a lab grown diamond, just like with natural diamonds. Higher quality lab grown diamonds with fewer inclusions are generally more valuable and sought after.

Yes, lab grown diamonds can be insured just like natural diamonds. Many insurance companies offer coverage for lab grown diamonds as part of standard jewelry insurance policies. To ensure proper coverage, obtain a grading report or certificate from a recognized gemological laboratory when purchasing a lab grown diamond and share it with your insurance provider.
